The Drawing Room (2), which Hardy designed to be light, bright and airy, has unusually large windows for a Victorian house. These allowed the Hardys an uninterrupted view of the garden and Came Woods beyond. Here Hardy, especially in his later years, entertained the great and famous of the worlds of literature art and music, to tea at four o'clock. His guests included Robert Louis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling, Mrs Patrick Campbell, A.E. Housman, Siegfried Sassoon, H.G. Wells, Robert Graves, Edmund Blunden, G.B. Shaw, Virginia Woolf, Gustav Holst, Marie Stopes, Sir James Barrie and many others.
